We have heard from several sources that Arlington Lamar wrestler Vince Hawkins is inelgible. We are trying to verify the same info. If so it is a shame as he would certainly be a medal contender. –JR

We saw some wild wrestling this afternoon. High scoring wild crazy finishes and lots of insanity on the mat. The topper of all were both the Sandoval matches which will have a story up later.

At 103 both Luttrell and Purcell dodged bullets to but that’s what makes champions — JR

One of my favs Manny “Fresh” Floyd — a really nice kid — did not make weight today and that was sad to see. He’s had a good year. He is still the freshest of the fresh. — JR

Love sitting on press row along with Heidi, Todd, the guy from “Rillo, Lisa Sandoval who I just love even if she works for the competition and my partners Frenchie & Dewey. Lots of comraderie but hey give us seats where we can see all the action. The two inside mats are 50% blocked from view and we can’t see the scores. Kim Rogers (UIL Press Czar) please help. — JR

Speaking of Kim Rogers she’s been the PR honcho for UIL State since I started covering and she is smart, nice and professional. Makes life a little easier. –JR

Sitting by Lisa Sandoval while her boyz were wrestling and pulling wins right out of Africa was pretty cool. I was just hoping she didn’t faint or have an attack as both matches were riveting and wild. — JR

Sometime please thank dewey & frenchie for their hard efforts to bring you real-time action-packed results. It ain’t easy and I may have mentioned I lost their paychecks — but hey they are both very dedicated reporters. I think Frenchie could maybe do this for a living some day — if she decides not to be a fashion model! –JR

One of the hardest things in the world — right next to being me and being an air traffic controller is refereeing state. The pressure, the calls, the tension is so thick you could cut it with a chainsaw. So far I think these guys in the stripes are doing a hell of a job. Love seeing my long-time friend Lee Baggett calling matches. Not a better man on the planet than Lee.

Was hpoing to run into Pappy so I could take him out back and open a can of whoop-ass on him — but hey we still have another day. On the credibility scale he is just south of the Mendoza line.–JR

Usually at State there are a ton of upsets. This year — so far — there have been a few — but not many — but a handful of top-ranked guys came real real close to getting the ticket punched for the consolations. –JR
