Her dad says she’s a regular girl. She’s not. She is sleek, smooth and fiery. On the wrestling mat she takes no prisoners. Off the mat, she smiles gently, speaks softly, with her long black hair tied tightly in a ponytail. We’re talking about Klein wrestler and All-American Lindsey Brooks. She wrestles at 148 pounds under her coach’s rule (her coach is also her father, Mark Brooks) that she cuts no weight. Brooks, Sr. doesn’t like any of his wrestlers to cut weight. Often girls who wrestle at 148 and are 5’ 4” or so, might be chunky. Lindsey is not.

Highland Park Wins Region 2

Coppell was fresh off an upset victory over Highland Park in District 16. Arlington Bowie was on a high after a dominating performance in tough District 13. Azle had blown through District 12 and also looked ready for a run at a regional title. But the team that once again lifted the Region 2 Championship trophy and advanced the most wrestlers to State was Highland Park.

Region 3 Preview and Rankings

Allen has always done a fine job hosting the Regional Tournament, and this year should be no different. The team race will be close as always, with many of the usual suspects (expect 5 of last year’s top 6 to be in again; Allen, Rockwall, Lake Highlands, Cinco Ranch, and Woodlands). Bowie Wins Arlington District Championship

The Arlington District is undoubtably the toughest in the State with four top caliber programs in Arlinton, Bowie, Lamar and Martin and some quality individuals in the other district programs. This year looked to be a barn-burner finish with Arlington favored by most pundits on the ITW forum. But it was good day to be a Bowie Volunteer as they destroyed the tough field, had the District title secured before the finals (if not mathematically as least practically) and advanced eleven wrestlers to Regionals where Highland Park and Coppell await, among others.

Region 3 early edition

The focus this week shifts to District Tournaments, but district is truly just the first step in a survivor series culminating in Austin the 4th week of February. I will take a quick look at the District Team races in this edition of the Houston Report, and then will offer an early edition look at Region 3 (to be expanded to a full report after districts).
