Questionable officiating Morrison and Boys Match

Postby wrestlingtime » Sun Feb 26, 2012 12:58 am

I hate to start a message on tx hs wrestling refs but just thought the finals match at 119 with shelby and with the boys match that ended with a caution technicality (YANG) was not good for the sport.
Morrison is a great wrestler but doesnt need help from a referee. She might have been stuck by sepulvega last yr and this yr she got 4 pts from technical violation vs the Houston wrestler.
In the boys 2 overtime match yang won on a caution...violation...hate to see matches end this way thats all.. :o :geek:

And if the referee had not called the caution, and the other wrestler had gained an advantage that resulted in Yang losing the match.....that would have been a better way for the match to end????

It was so loud in that tiny arena and with two other matches going on I found it hard to believe the ref would call that false start to end the match...there was no way those kids could hear a wistle with the crowd the way it was...the ref should have allowed a restart as I have seen them do a hundred times...was a shame for a great match to end like that. That's why they should only have the finals and not run the consi at the same time.

If I am not mistaken the other two matches had been over for at least a few minutes. It is a state championship, and the crowd should be going nuts going into a sudden death round. I really wish we could of seen the last 30 seconds, but the call was 100% correct.

The questionable one was the first caution given to Bass. There was clearly another whistle from one of the other matches that caused BOTH of the wrestlers to move after being set. The official should have taken that caution on himself and reset them both without anyone getting one.

what if him jumping early would have stoppped yangs first move and caused him to ride yang out? in triple over time this has to be called.. also he had 2 previously so obviously he had been jumping the gun the whole match. watched jordan oliver, defending national champ at OSU, lose a match this way. sucks but the ref has to call it.

This is a great example: Nickal vs Short at the Cheesehead this year. Start of last overtime Nickal gets to his feet and it looks like the clock didn't start or something and they have to start back down. Then at the end of the overtime looks like Short loses his lock but no call from the ref. Everybody has good or bad calls, a wrestler in not made nor broken by one single match. I don't know Nickal personally, but I bet he didn't focus too much on that match and moved forward to his first state championship this year. Just as I don't suspect Pierce or Bass will focus on their loses at state. They all are too good for that and understand that they are not defined by one match. If you wrestle long enough a person is bound to encounter a call that goes against them. Wrestlers, coaches and parents need to move on from one match to the next, and if you continuely focus on the what if's or the last match you are bound to get beat. Looking ahead is always better than looking back.

I wonder if we could create a schedule whereby we could have people sign up and pick a week that they will be responsible for re-posting something about the poor officiating. Something needs to be done to keep this issue front and center so that everyone is aware.

I will sign up for the week of March 26. If no one else wants that week...

Fair enough - If you include poor coaching and poor wrestling also.

Wrestlers dont get paid to wrestle they just work out everyday. All with the same hope to be an all state wrestler. Refs get paid to ref a fair match, however the out come. For that to be taken away from a kid because an official feels sorry for another wrestler or he knows the wrestler or parent or coach etc is disgusting.
