Well Coach Eaton I did my alignment a little more scientific, I used the Step method, I wrote down all the schools name on a card and threw them down some steps , I then started with the ones that went the furthest to be 4A, my first district is.

Vernon
Rockwall Heath
Pharr San Juan Memorial
Strake Jesuit
Elpaso Eastwood
Klein Oak
Cedar Park
Arlington Heights

It will be a little bit of travel, but if we all agree to just wrestle on Sat. No school should have to miss more than 3 days a week. So their goes another scenario to the MYSTERY alignments.

UIL has posted the 2012-2013 Wrestling Alignments. Region 2 5A is loaded. Also, Region 1 District 2 only has 2 schools????

With only 16 districts in 4 regions does that mean 4 from each district now qualify for regionals?

Yes, top 4 from each district will advance to the region tournament.

This might be a good time to usher in the "matrix" at regionals with a point system to rank/separate the four #1 seeds from each district!?! I think we can really make the regional seeding meeting a quick one from now on....

Coaches, please be ready to discuss this tonight as well as State Duals format(s) etc.!!

(I am still going to release my bowling alignment preview next week).

So there will be 2 byes coming out of the 2 team district?

Crazy stuff there. I also noticed some new teams listed, are they actual programs or just checked boxes?

We need to take the time to seed the top wrestlers to get it right!! These regions are more local and we should be able to seed the tournaments. Do what is best for the wrestlers not what is most convenient.

Plus, District 2 only has 2 wrestlers. Surely they can adjust this to get a better balance than that???

IN the past, we have done a pretty good job seeding the kids at regionals, but with the new alignments, I can see a seeding meeting being a crapshoot, especially for a region like 5A Region 1. There is going to be many cases where there is no head to head and no common. The matrix and a point system may actually be better due to the geography. Of Course, Tascosa and Lubbuck come out good in that scenario as they get all of their kids through with #1 and #2 out of districts. THere ae definitely problems to iron out.
If you want to be the best, outwork the rest!

I hope the coaches take the time to seed at regionals. I think we all know the top wrestlers in the state even if there are geography issues and we are lacking some head to head common matches. The top 5 or 6 wrestlers will be well known in each region and several of the districts will have 3 of the top 5. The districts are not equal and a #1 shouldn't carry the same weight district by district.

At state, they should at least seed the #1's. That would ensure the top 2 are never on the same side of the bracket.

Are we seriously talking about seeding wrestlers at the regional tournament? Does anyone know where those will be? Does anyone know where the state tournaments will be? Seriously with a 2 team district and a 17 team district you all are talking about seeding the regional tournament as to aviod a Pierce Rico matchup. Are you kidding! Pierce hasn't won a State championship since his freshman year! He is a great wrestler but stop arguing about a fair seeding when it seems it has been pretty fair. The Rico Babin match was about even when Babin was DQ'd.
The UIL is the govering body of Texas high schools extra curricular activities and it's primary mandate is help create a fair and level playing field. Each time UIL wrestling Alignment comes out it is far from fair and some of the choices and decisions seem even intentional.
The powers that be have had a difficult time supporting the sport of wrestling and perhaps they have created a new system to further weaken the sport. Some of the districts are incredible powerhouses with 4,5 or 6 of the top wrestlers in them while others will be massacred when they get to regionals. Although separating into 4A and 5A may have seemed like more participation it most likely has created a greater divide in talent.
Looks like we will have a year of uncertainty. I hope there are some adjustments. I am not sure how 2 is equal 17 or 2 is equal to 15. Then again it's the UIL.

DBNEWYORK-

I guess we now know what DB Stands for! Why do you have to bring Pierce/Rico into the scenario? Are you kidding! There are far too many instances when the best two wrestlers are on the same side of the bracket at State and this should NOT happen! This is a problem that is easily corrected with a matrix that is used by several other states...

The other problems you address are problems! So DB, YOU got answers? If so then lets hear them! Dont be part of the problem, be part of the solution or quit your bitchn'!
