Perhaps you might want to send folks there something resembling the following:

I wonder if your school might be potentially launching any sort of wrestling program for either or both genders, like various peers have throughout Texas remarkably inexpensively through this league that exists independently of the NCAA, NJCAA and NAIA:

http://www.ncwwa.net/teams?state=true (women)

Incidentally, Texas already has around 250 boys' high school wrestling teams and 195 gals' teams. The latter will increasingly grow since women's freestyle wrestling is now an Olympic sport. And we have seen throughout the U.S.A. how effective wrestling teams can be at inspiring alumni donor loyalty, too (especially in Oklahoma)... Amateur wrestling's popularity is at an all-time high in some ways, as this helps document:

And with the growing need for self-defense skills amidst a climate of declining law enforcement budgets, isn't it refreshing to see women's amateur wrestling growing like it is?

http://www.nwcaonline.com/nwcawebsite/w ... facts.aspx

Capitalizing on the growth trends, some schools in our region now have national conference-sanctioned teams including:

Wayland Baptist (in Plainview, Texas):

Central Baptist (just North of Little Rock, Arkansas):

http://www.cbc.edu/athletics.aspx?id=3452

and Ouachita Baptist (also near Little Rock):

They are enjoying enrollment boosts as a result of their progressive endeavors, drawing talent, individual dynamism and tuition dollars away from Houston (where wrestling is pretty strong as these sources help show):

(interactive Google map of existing teams in Texas);

2010 state tournament team scoring, guys (Top 10):
1. Allen 136.5
2. Flower Mound 100
3. Canyon Randall 90
4. Coppell 86
5. Arlington Martin 79
6. Houston Clear Lake 64
7. Houston Westside 58.5
8. Lake Highlands 53.5
9. El Paso Eastwood 53
10. Cedar Park Vista Ridge 52

GALS:

Top 10 girls team scores points
1. Amarillo Caprock 33
2. Katy 31 (that's a western suburb of Houston)
3. Hereford 29
4. Amarillo Tascosa 28
5. Clear Creek 23 (*******that's at a southern suburb of Houston, near NASA HQ, which only just added wrestling for either gender maybe 3 or 4 years ago, and 2 of the gals from there are headed for Wayland Baptist this Fall...****)
6. Brazoswood 22
7. Cypress Creek 21 (also in the Houston region)
8. Arlington 20
9. El Dorado 18
10. Lamar 18

Any thoughts?

And if they say "no", it's worth avoiding burning bridges as you've at least planted an idea that can grow with adequate cultivation from future incoming classes. You might want to mention when saying thanks for their candor how:

for future reference, students can very affordably launch wrestling club teams for themselves through:

http://www.ncwa.net/teams?state=true (men)

&

http://www.ncwwa.net/teams?state=true (women)

And there are plenty of used mats for sale online, which can be rolled up after practice to make room for other sports. One site which sells used ones is: http://www.wearandgear.com and there are others that one can find at search engines, too.

Elected political officials are making a push for at least the U. of Houston to get to join the wrestling-sponsoring Big 12:

Might TCU, S.M.U. and Rice attract comparable backing?

Lone Star College (which has several campuses competing in sports in the area) might also be a candidate for launching a wrestling program:

Might any of these schools have R.O.T.C. (military reserved officers training corps.) units that would be interested in launching a wrestling club?

U.H. has one for the navy, and judging from the info. at the bottom of this page, Rice does as well:
